If you're teaching adults in Korea how do you enjoy the schedule? I mean getting up at 6am seems hard to too. I am offered a job and everything is cool, except super early start.
So for those who do teach like that, do you get used to the schedule? Is it possible to have a bit of a night life or are you in bed by 10 each night?
Thanks for any input |

Back in the day I taught adults on a split schedule. Basically I taught in the morning from, if I remember correctly (and maybe I don't) 6:45 to 7:45 and 7:45 to 8:45. Had a couple of hours (when I went home to eat) and then taught from 11:00 to 12:00. Then I went home and slept until 5 or so and taught from 7:00 to 10:00. At around 10:15 I'd be at hapkido, I'd do my thing, go home and prep, sleep a few hours, and go back to work.
I had only planned on doing the job for a year max so the end was always in sight and I love teaching adults so it was all good and I managed to save quite a bit of money working that way. |

Some people manage OK on a split shift. I think it's a killer.
My schedule was very similar to the beaver's. I found I never got a full night's sleep. Ever. Naps were the only way to survive, but it's hard to fully relax and take a nap 3 or 4 times in 24 hours...especially when the neighbors got noisy during the day.
I also found I can't relax enough to sleep right after I teach. I need some time to wind down. That eats up time.
If the schedule has a block of time early in the morning and then another block in the evening, it's not so bad. Just make sure there are no gaps during a block. Sitting around all groggy at 7:30 in the morning is no fun. |
