Petition Starts for Husband Killer
Some hope Korean courts will officially recognize trauma caused by violent husbands, calling for the recognition of domestic violence as a legal defense. They said those female victims should be exempt from criminal punishment, as is the case in the U.S. or Canada. So far, women who have killed their husbands after suffering domestic violence have received heavy penalties in Korea, as taking a human life is regarded as more serious than the mistreatment of women.
... So, had her prison sentence lightened to five-years by the high court, after being originally sentenced at a lower court to eight years for killing her husband. The court concluded that So, who had suffered post traumatic stress disorder from her husband's habitual battery and insult for several years, committed the crime in a state of extreme stress after he severely insulted her.
