What exactly is out there?
Far and away the best I've been able to find is Seo Taiji, its surprisingly decent rock. DJ Doc is corny as all hell, but its pretty entertaining (and I just can't get "disco night! sexy all night! super super vibrator!" out of my head). Crying Nut is also at least interesting, but most the the rest is just cringe-worthy. Is there any other listenable stuff out there? I haven't been hearing any... |

And (duh.) live music places. Last time I was in Daehangno I followed a coupla kids with guitars into a little club that had some passable (a little derivative, but find me a 20-yr-old who isn't) punky-ska going on. The dance floor was packed with leather-, chrome-, plaid- and safety pin-sporting coeds shaking their moneymakers. Good enough for me. |

There may be plenty of it if you're willing to stop looking at music like a teenager: As a form of self-identification, and just enjoy it for what it is. |

I tried I really tried. I DLed a bunch of BOA, shinhwa etc. etc. a while back but the badness was so painful that I couldn't stand it. Just can't stop listening to DJ Doc though, songs crack me up.
The Jaerim I'm DLing ATM is listenable, thanks. |

Korean music sucks my definition. Except that ajossi music that you hear in the taxi. You know the stuff with the beat that makes you want to dance. Now that's music. |

That's called "trot" or "tuh roh tuh" music. The funky organ, the woman screaming yeeha and the drum machine are a great combo for the hands-clapping rhythmically set. |

A smallclub in Hong-dae called DGBG has a great punk show on Friday nights. I have enjoyed watching "the Rock Tigers" (a punk/Eddie Cocrane hillbilly band), as well as "Crying Nut" (a very cool contribution to the punk genre, and probably Korea's biggest band of the type) as well as some Japanese bands like "Band of Ninjamanz" which was a psychobilly/hardcore band. Excellent show all around... even if I am older than any two people in the club! 15,000 to get in and one free beer... then it is slam-dancing and good ol' fashion punk to see/hear. |

yes! One of the few bands I can actually unplug my ears and listen to. Cherry Filter wasn't that bad as well. |

Agreed, I've been there a couple of times and it's a cracking night out. You need to get there pretty early though, first band's normally on around 8ish.
Asoto Union- ace. Rock Tigers, Crying Nut- ace.
I like the new Bobby Kim tune , and some of the stuff by (hiphop) is good too. |
