With the National Assembly set to press ahead with a controversial bill on labor market flexibility in its special session in April, labor groups are gearing up for a big fight and plan their first action today.
Aiming to up the ante against the authorities, some workers affiliated with the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, the second largest, hard-line umbrella labor group in Korea, are set to down their tools at 1 p.m. for four hours in a "warning strike."
"As scheduled, we will stage a four-hour general strike on April 1, giving a stern warning to the authorities (not to pass the bill)," KCTU spokesperson Lee Soo-bong said.
