Today's the day I'm supposed to get my one-month bonus for finishing my first contract at a private college last year.

Stay tuned to see if they actually pay.

Anybody want to make a prediction?

Here's a twist...
a person I know...KT...has worked at this particular hakwon for one year.
When this person started working...the owner told the KT...I will withhold 300.000 and give it back to you when you complete one year. Why? Many teachers quit before a year and I have to find a new teacher so holding your money will guarantee that you stay for one year!
Stupid KT agreed to this! Because they need the job!
One year past...payday came and no 300.000. KT reminds the owner...owner says..oh yes...here's what I'll do....each month I'll pay you 50.000 for 6 months!! And the KT again agrees to this! KT calls me up and was not happy, etc and I say...why didn't you have the balls to tell the owner to give you YOUR money!!! No answer.
I know many hakwon owners who do the same thing.
I don't care what anyone says...most koreans will cheat someone in a heartbeat. Most hakwon owners are scum. Very few are decent human beings.

Well, pay day came and - of course - as you guessed it, my bank account was short one bonus of about 2.2 mil. Now they say the school's having some accounting problems and, "Don't worry, you'll get your money by the end of April." Promises, promises. ...

Sorry to hear that. They waited until the last minute huh? When someone in the future asks you how life was here, always remember that moment.

You may want to tell some people posting in this forum.

Perhaps those working in Universities are only adjunct instructers teaching as little as 12 hours a week or less and getting up to 5 months paid vacations.
Perhaps if you are unhappy with your contract, you should ask yourself why you signed it.
Perhaps if you want a higher paying job, you should apply for one.
Perhaps if you can't find a better job in Korea, you should ask yourself why you choose to remain in Korea instead of going to whatever country you think has better opportunities.
Perhaps if you can't find a better position anywhere in the world, you should be grateful for the opportunity you have in Korea.

I once had to wait a month to get 400,000 won after I got fired. It was only that I had another job in Korea that meant I still got it, but I had to bitch for a month. But you do still land on your feet sometimes, I did.

Depending on what your contract says as when they will pay you...Mine said "all money will be paid to employee on the last day of contract." That should overide the Labor Office law that says they must pay within 14 days. If your contract doesn't stipulate anything different or ealier than 14 days you would be wise to tell your employer you will be going to the Labor Ministry. GO TO THE LABOR MINISTRY(dial 1350 from your phone and press English, they will tell you which nearest place to go).
