| i ordered a digital camera online and am having it shipped from the states. i was thinking of having it shipped to my army friend if it would avoid any customs or tarriff charges. i tried looking in the other threads but didnt see any mention of this. also, when you have things shipped overseas and have to pay a charge, how are you billed? thanks |

Nothing like fronting off your Army friend!!! And I'm not trying to sound rightous either...but...
You gave a good reason for korean customs and or the military folks to start checking APO mail and packages!
Anyone with SOFA does not have to pay import duty if the package comes on base to an APO address.
But...if your friend gets caught...well...he/she knows the consequences.
So yes...it would avoid tax. But...what are you really saving?!?!?!? a $100.00?!?!? If you feel the need to get around the man for 100.00 bucks....
Maybe instead I should just bite my tongue and keep quiet.
Korean customs charges tax on the item and charges tax on the postage/shipping. They will contact you when the item arrives for their money...you send the money to their bank and they release the item. |
