The Korean ethos of "bali bali," that is, doing things in a rushed manner as fast as possible, damn the consequences, is starting to piss me off.
This weekend they painted the whole outside of my apartment building, all 10 stories, in under five hours. Unfortunately they also painted right over my bicycle which was locked up out front.
Now there is a bicycle sized hole in the paint job and my bicycle is covered in paint. Oh well, it is just a cheapo Chinese bicycle I use to commute to my high school.
Anyone know some good tricks to get paint off a bicycle? |

Hey! This is similar to what happened to me last summer man!
One sunny summer morning I went outside to sunbathe on the walkway beside my apartment. I fell sound asleep out there not knowing that the sidewalk was scheduled to be re-paved that day.
To make a long story short, I woke up late afternoon to find that they had paved right over me. From the neck down I was nothing but a black, freshly tarred sidewalk.

Heh, at my new school, I've been given a newly-furbished English classroom. I chose the desks and blinds and flooring, but couldn't use it for 2 weeks while it was all being done up.
Well, the LAST thing they did was repaint the walls..
So last week when I go to teach in there, the blind cords are stuck to the paint, there are paint splots and smudges all over the BRAND NEW chairs and desks....
*sigh*...
Anyway, bummer about the bike Jack. |

So ... any one know how to get paint off a bicycle?
I'd use turpentine, but I don't want to melt the important rubber parts, like brakes and tires. |

It's most likely not oil-based paint, anyway. Beyond that, I have no useful advice. Maybe take the bike to a hardware store- with a Korean friend in tow? |

take it to a car wash. Usually a high preassure hose will blast the paint off of pretty much everything, just make sure you oil your chain up afterwards. |

Thanks for the tips guys and gals.
I found this citrus based oven cleaner at E Mart that did the trick.
My bike is no longer splattered with that hideous beige paint that Korean ethos edicts mandate all apartu buildings be coloured. |

One time in India I delayed just a second in getting off a bus. People started pouring in just as I started down the steps. I wedged myself in there and was stalemated for a few seconds. Then people started to turn me over so that things started falling from my pocket. At that point I got a bit peckish and fortunately the police arrived and broke up the incipient riot with their nightsticks, and I was able to right myself and get off the bus. |

While the Bali Bali syndrome can be annoying, it does have some benefits. Take for example when you want your internet set up or when you order food delivery. Those guys are there in rapido minutes. What I really like is that I never have to set appointments and wait days, like back home. In fact, I don't think I ever had to wait for an appointment for anything (except immigration processing a blue form ) I just walked into a hospital, hair salon whatever and got something done in under an hour.
Now if only the hagwon directors would bali bali with my pay |
