Yes, you heard it correctly. I thought it was my imagination for the longest time, but apparently you can't keep country music down.

I hear it faintly coming out of the speakers, subwoofer and all. Even when I mute the master volume it continues cheerily putting out stuff I can't say I'm interested in listening to. I've fiddled with the audio settings with no luck. I do have a cable modem and wonder if the sounds aren't coming through the cable wire. Anyone ever heard of such an odd occurrence?

Oh shit I think I hear Shania starting up.

Mine's been doing that for years. I thought it was part of the operating system and kind of cool how they matched "country" with those of us who know the highway well between Lubbock and Muskogee. Could never figure out how they did it, though. Wink

Easy solution:

Begin to like country music.

Your system is acting as a reciever for some reason. If it's not the actual connection feeding it in, move the computer a bit. As with a radio signal in a car, sometimes moving even an inch can lose or gain a signal. Perhaps relocating the computer a tad will help.

At least it's western music. It could be syrupy K-Pop....I put country one notch above that drivel.

Jeebus Christ, no way. I pledge to do my duty to hate country music for god and country...

<with the exception of Truckin' songs from the 70's and that's only 'cause I got hooked on the crack that is listening to those 8-tracks on grandpa's farm>

...for as long as I shall live. Amen.

But I appreciate the ideas, guys.

I sometimes hear what sounds like Russian from the speakers on my computer, but it only lasts for a couple of seconds. Stuff like that happens a lot. My brother's electric guitar used to pick up the local radio station when it was plugged in.

You may be living next to a radio station tower.

Changing speakers might help. I'd suggest buying a cheap set of little speakers and seeing if they put out the station or not. It doesn't take much to create an AM radio on your own. All you need is a power source, a wire, and one diode, if my memory is correct.

Radio signals are VERY powerful. I saw on TV once where some guy held a floresent light bulb up next to (not touching) a car's CB antenna. The light would "light up" whenever he pressed the transmit button to talk. And the bulb wasn't even plugged in.

Now imagine living near a full radio tower.

Try a different set of speakers. You also might rearrange the speaker wires a bit. This can happen even more easily if they are stretched over long distances.

My brother and I used to drive the neighbors nuts when we were kids everytime we played with our walkytalkies. Our voices would come out of the TV and the image would be scrambled.
