I recently took my first trip to Thailand. Here are some
quick comparisons from an eight year veteren of Korea.
Bangcok
Day 1
Breakfast ; eggs bacon fresh fruits and toast with no grease
and at a cost of 2.50
T-shirts
Classy with fun and interesting designs , all at dirt cheap prices
Bookstore(emporium shopping mall)
As good as any the West has, all books in English here
super selection of Science Fiction and displaing general good taste
and a WIDE selection of GOOD authors.
Nightlife
cheap beer and the party never stops
Seoul
Breakfast:
Forget it. Greasy stomach turning 10 buck breakfast found only
in Itaewon(Nashville)
T-shirts:
Almost fun T-shirts at all, the ones that do exist are all Korea-oriented
or display crude slogans. Again only Itaewon has any
selection
Bookstores..
Kyobo has actually gone DOWNHILL these past two years
taking off any author with class and replacing the English
novels with junky bestsellers(John Grisham)
Prices are however , comparable to Bangcock,
and the selection of textbooks in Korea is definately superior.
Second hand bookstores offer limited selections and have poor turnover rates.
NightLife.
Itaewon...the party stopped 3 years ago
Stay tuned for part 2! |

Bangkok blows every city in Asia away.
Funny though how even the poorest countries in Asia have so much more to offer in regards to food, english books, nightlife, nearly everything. Same in Saigon, Hanoi, Jakarta, Phnom Pehn, Manila, etc. |

What's a round-trip plane ticket from Seoul to Bangkok gonna run you?
In Korea as a student and have quite limited finances, but think I could pull off a Thailand trip by putting the plane ticket on the trusty credit card...
Also considering a ferry ride to Shandong or Dalian someday.

If only BKK offered some of the things I like about Korea... cause BKK sure is a great city, and I don't even want a western breakfast or nightlife!
The boats to Shandong are great... and it's cheaper to be there than Dalian, from what I hear. |

Bangkok has got some awesome bookstores, Bookazine comes to mind...and an awesome collection of books on Asia, books by Asian authors, history, short stories, poetry, art, you name it they got it...
bookstores in Seoul don't even compare...they are all fairly useless
nightlife...whether you like food, poontang, music, etc....Seoul does not compare
weather..... Seoul definately does not compare
people...friendliness is more geniune in Thailand...great folks...not that Koreans are all bad, just that, well there is not much comparison..Thais enjoy life and live it....Koreans work and don't seem to really understand how to enjoy life...no passion for living here |
