Hi everyone - I'm looking at a position in Uiwang and I was just wondering if someone could tell me what they've experienced or heard about living in Uiwang. Is there anything to do there? I like to play basketball - is there anywhere nearby where I'll be able to find a game pretty often. I'm also into the nightlife and I'm scared that there's going to be nothing in Uiwang and that Seoul is going to be too far away to head out there on a regular (non-weekend) basis, but, then again, I don't know exactly how long it would take to get there. Think I should be okay? Or should I maybe wait for something in Seoul or closer to it? Thanks for your help. |

Well, it's close to Anyang, and there's a huge foreigner community there. It's on the edge of Seoul so cruising into Seoul proper should be easy too. |

hey E
Well Uiwang ain't the centre of the universe. The are 5 or so other native teachers here but we hardly see each other. The city itself (aka 'the green city) is nice enough, close to mountains and with fresh air. It is 20 mins to Anyang by bus, or Pyongchon where there are loads of western faces.
Suwon is also a 30 min bus ride away, and Seoul About 80 mins by bus. Uiwang does have a train station but the buses are eaiser to use.
In short Uiwang is a nice place. It is close enough to everything you would want, I enjoyed my time there. What school are you looking at?
Hope this helps |

That helps a lot. Thank you both for your responses.

It's the Wilson Language Institute - have you heard anything about it? |

UiWang... (ǿ).... worked there for six months while staying in Suwon. There aint much to do or see there, it's just a small place, pretty much "countryside" as one of my high school students there put it. It's quiet and not busy.
But as said, it's near Seoul, Suwon and Anyang, so you'd be just a bus ride away from the bigger and more happening places. It may not be such a bad place to be. Personally it didn't do much for me. But it was near enough to Seoul for weekends I guess. If ya got a few pals you should be fine. |

Sorry to resurrect the thread, but i am looking at a teaching position there, do you know if they have any swimming facilities, or good areas to bike? the school I am looking at is near the indeogwan subway stn, so I dont think its too far outside of Kangnam... Im thinking about 40 minutes or so. Are the apartments better/worse that in the city proper? Seems like a great job, just curious about the area, i have a lot of friends in seoul and I would like to be able to get out and see them one in awhile. |
