really funny thread!
I've always wondered the same thing myself. My 2.5 yr old nephew has started doing it after he saw his grandpa doing it a few times |

Did not the Japanese handcuff Koreans? Did they not tie their hands behind their backs?

The most people at one time, as a group, doing it was a bunch of government workers in suits on a break from work. My guess/feeling is it's an 'I'm on inspection tour' pose of a gentleman who doesn't do menial labour and thus doesn't need hands at the ready. They can be held behind back at rest. A kind of pose that says 'I have authority', don't use my hands, and have a big brain. |

haha- you spazzer, as if that's the reason!?
I heard this lunchtime that yangban used to strut around like that, while the serfs would bow and scrape with their hands at the front. Tis kind of a nobleman walk, you can almost imagine the horsehair hat. |

I think the women do it because that is the way children and other things are carried. Have you ever seen a ajjoshi carry a case of food on his back? Look at how the babies are carried. Next time you see and ajuma with her hands behind her back, and stooped a bit forward, imagine a baby there.
Anyway, that is my silly conjecture. |
