Any ideas as to how to teach English effectively over the phone? I've got to call my kids every so often but can't at all get it to be a learnable experience or in any way productive. They're all just beginners.

How about getting them to call YOU and leaving you a message on your answering machine?

Or pretend you are Pizza Hut and they have to call you up and order?
Or pretend there is an emergency and they have to call for a fire engine or ambulance?
