Successive corruption scandals stain South Korean union movement
According to investigators at the prosecution, Kwon and a number of senior members of the taxi drivers union allegedly demanded a rebate of 1 billion won (US$1 million) from a Seoul real estate developer in return for investing 4 billion won of union funds in his building remodeling project and were paid 650 million won instead. Kwon allegedly took 500 million won of the rebate.
Separately, a number of incumbent and former senior FKTU officials are under investigation for suspected embezzlement of government subsidies.
