I don't think indoors/outdoors matters too much. I think ideally, they are hoping for a passport type photo... but not too sure, since every recruiter wants something different it seems.

It would be nice to look dressed up, and be clean shaven if you can. They aren't too fond of whiskers...probably b/c they can't grow them here really.

Also, when having it developed, ask if they can ensure that the photo is lightened so that you look as white as possible....will open a lot more doors for ya. I am not kidding. Shocked

Being darker, I had a lot of difficulty securing a position....and I am sure being whiter would have been a great advantage. IMO they shouldn't even be asking for a photo...it should be about the quality of your experience...but that's wishful thinking I suppose.

As one recruiter here noted a long time ago, don't send a picture of you with a Korean woman in your lap.

I'm wearing an English Spectrum t-shirt, sticking out my tongue, and making the forefinger-penetrates-the-OK-sign with my hands in my picture. Do you think that will be OK? I'm pretty light skinned.

Would you send a prospective employer at home a picture of you in jeans and a t-shirt? That's OK if you're applying for a construction job. You, however, are applying for a teaching job.

Use some common sense. Dress the part of the job you are applying for.

I actually sent them one of my university grad pictures. The recruiter and school seemed to be impressed. The supervisor even commented on it on our first meeting.

They like people with big smiles who look friendly and happy. I was also told that if I had pictures with me and kids that would be even better.
