Who SCUBA Dives?
What is your certification level?
Where do you dive?
Where have you dived?
I got my OW with Big Blue in Koh Samui, Thailand.
How far do you want to go?
I did both my AOW and RESCUE with Mermaids at Jomtien Beach, Thailand.
Mermaids added an extra day of dive training to my AOW and two extra days to my RESCUE Course..it was very thorough.
I have only a few dives. All my dives were training dives, all in Thailand.
Someday I might do for my Divemaster.
I was in a lower level class and the students asked me what I liked doing. I said, SCUBA Diving. THis 20 year old shy girl raised her hand and said she also liked to dive. I had just finsihed my RESCUE Course so went to grab my card and she got hers out. This girl was an SDI Instructor for OW as well as Nitrox. She has over 200 dives, all in Korea. She is a partner in a diveshop as well. I was humbled. Anyway, if she ever got good at English it would be easy for her to find a job in a Diveshop in most places in Asia. |

I have been thinking of getting recertified for some time(my old certificate is from 1978 and I think there may have been some advances since then)
How much did the certification cost? How long did it take to get? I am planning on heading to Thailand sometime in August.
I do know that there is at least one dive club in Seoul and here are some shops at

in Thaild I paid about US250.00 for my OW which took 4 days. Some schools let you do the certs much faster, Koh Tau has many of those types of schools. For a refresher it would be cheaper as you don't really need recertification. I like Mermaids the best as they will not let you take any short cuts in your training. I am sure others have some good suggestions. Also, the Philippines have cheaper dives but I do not know anything about their schools.
I have little interest in diving in Korea as I like the reefs and wreck dives. |

You know me and you know what I've done.
I get wet unless I get union rates. |

Eventually I want to get my divemaster. After i take care of the university bills and my Bank loans.
In total I have logged 15 dives.
9 in the Philippines (Aqualife Divers Academy - Boracay)
2 in Saipan ( Stingray Divers)
4 in Thailand ( Planet Scuba - Off Koh Tao ) |

One of two Army guys in the course. Did most of my working dives on the Imjim river, some in the Han. Logged a few in Missouri, Florida and Michigan. Haven't been wet in awhile..I'm drying out. |

I go my OW this past February in Boracay... also dived at Malapasqua.. but still, ya my experience is limited...
Korea isn;t really renowned for having any good dive sites are they? wrecks? underwater plant life? what would be good here? |

| I am considering the Philippines to do my Divemasters course. I did all up to RESCUE in Thailand. Can anyone recommend a good dive school in the Philippines? I want one that makes you earn it, not one that exchnages the certification for the right amount of money. ALso, needs to be PADI. |

Try Calypso Diving or Dive Gurus...both on Boracay. Did my DM at Calypso, and the CD who did my IDC owns Dive Gurus.
They both have web-sites. Google them.
For diving in Korea, check out my site, www.scubainkorea.com
It has all the info I know about foreign dive clubs and/or shops with English service. if you find one that is not on my site, please let me know so that I can add it, and future divers will have an easier go of it here in Korea. |

Try Savedra at Moal Boal, they also have a web page. The guy who is trained up in tech diving as well, plus you can do your nitrox there.
I am planning on going in June for some dives, no courses. Its ok there and cheaper than boracay.
Just my 2 cents worth. |

Phuket Pro Dive is run by a Canadian guy and his Japanese wife.
It seems he was a diver in the Canadian forces (check his web site)
Phuket Pro Dive Scuba and E-Mail: [email protected]
I'm not a diver - and have never met the guy - but he kindly provided me with some info on Phuket over at LPlanet web site. |

I love diving. Was afraid to for the longest time since a cousin of mine drowned while SCUBA Diving. (Later realised that it might have been bad judgement on his part.)
Anyhow, I got my PADI Open Water Certification from Kungeum (Diamond) Dive School on Boracay from a nice British Diver named Jeffrey. Went out on 6 Dives. Look forward to diving again someday in the near future. Not sure about my goals, yet. I would like to one day get certified so I can do shipwrecks. Still deciding where I want to go with it.
BTW, Diver, are you still teaching open water courses at the Shark Tank in Busan? Or elsewhere for that matter? (BTW, I heard through the grapevine that you're an awesome diving instructor.)
Cheers! |
