I have an external DVD burner in an enclosure with both USB and firewire connectors and windows XP pro SP2. If I connect using a USB 2.0 cable all is well with windows auto-detecting the drive and nero being happy. However I am short of USB ports and would really like to make use of the firewire ports which are otherwise sitting unused, however I cannot get XP to see the drive even if I power on before connecting or if I run the add new hardware wizard. Any suggestions as to what might be causing this problem or possible solutions would be greatly appreciated....
Thanks
Paul

Buy a USB hub. Takes one port, tuns it into 4 or more.

Yeah I'm coming to that conclusion too. I just found out firewire is the apple standard, makes sense that it's an odd shape and doesn't work..................

I have found firewire to work well for my DV, via a firewire card I bought...nothing on the mainboard. However, the only reason I have used firewire at all is because the camera came with a firewire cable.

This was back before USB2.0 as well, when USB1 was way too slow for video capture.

There can be conflicts using both USB and firewire at the same time, something I never did.

Yeah, get a hub...they are cheap and reliable.

Everything demophobe said. The only reason I have firewire is for the camcorder...

and whatever you do, don't buy a combo card as that really screwed up my computer for a while.
