Has anyone been to Japan on a visa run very recently (like from the beginning of March 05 onwards) and done the whole thing in one day? If so can you let us know, because according to this link:-

http://www.pusanweb.com/guides/fukuoka/index.htm?/guides/fukuoka/fukuokamain.htm

the Fukuoka office has stopped issuing them the same day, even if you hand in your documents in the morning. They now say that you have to wait a full 24 hours, and cant even guarantee that an afternoon drop-off is good enough for a next day issue. Apparently this policy change took effect from February 28th. First of all, is this true? And secondly, is it the same for Osaka and Tokyo? I tried calling the office this morning, but couldnt get a definitive answer in English. Im gonna get my girlfriend to ring them tomorrow, so hopefully Ill have an answer by then, but in the meantime, anyone who has managed to do it - or anyone who knows what the policy is right now - could you please help with some answers. Im due to go next week, but my school is insisting I go on the Friday. Thats fair enough, but they want me to start work on the Monday morning and hence will not pay for the whole weekend.

Cheers.

Yes, it's true. The Fukuoka office no longer processes the visa in a day. You need to hand in your documents before 3pm for them to be collected the next working day after 10am. Am not sure whether it's the same at the Osaka and Tokyo offices though, although this website:-

http://www.julice.co.kr/sub/japan.htm

...says it's still possible in a day in Osaka (submit documents before 2pm to pick up after 4pm). It might be worth phoning beforehand though, just to be safe. It's also got the Japanese holidays on there, so is quite helpful.

A couple days in Osaka and excuse to spend a couple days there would actually be kind of nice. Damn fine sushi and okonomiyaki.
