ok, I have severe severe reservations about sharing this, but I feel its my duty. If however you are an a--hole, rude to servers, or an obnoxious drunk PLEASE quit reading.
Anyway, AWESOME mexican restauraunt in Yoido. Its called La salsa Loca (www.lasalsaloca.com). Great food, affordable, and quite fresh. Definitely worth going, hell you actually get free chips and salsa (they have 6 types!). Great stuff! They aren't inundated with westeners yet, so if you go- please keep it civil so that they stay cool. |

You are lucky! If that place was in Pusan I would be hanging out there every friday! Hey, did you know that the word SALSA here is the word for diaria? No joke, just go into your kiddie class and say it! salsa...salsa........salsa. |

You might want to work just a little on your English pronunciation if Koreans think you're saying ���� when you're salsa. |

I was just there Saturday and was less than impressed. It smelled like a mexican restaurant and that got my hopes up. But the food was over priced, the service was slow, and the Mexican food was sub par compared to hole in the wall Chili Chilis near Noksapyeong.
I had the burrito and my beautiful girlfriend had the quesadillas. The quesadillas were nothing more than cheese melted between flat bread. The burrito was passable but not very Mexican.
The problem with Mexican food is everyone has a different metric for "good". Some people might have only experience Mexican food in Toronto. Some might have been raised on San Fran Mission District burritos. |

Yes, and some of us have had the real pleasure of living on Mexico City street food. WOW! That stuff is the greatest! (Of course, after some months, there was the inevitable amoebic dysentery. ) |

I grew up in Tucson, AZ - 80km from Mexico - and I'd kill (or at least give a good mauling) for some good Mexican. Went to Panchos and got tacos that tasted just like the burritos that tasted just like the enchiladas that tasted just like the . . .. Must taste all the same to the chef! Scuked!
But, I do have to admit - the pitcher of margaritas was yummy. Oy! |

The only thing good about Panchos is their sangrias. The food is straight out of an ass emporium though. |

I've been lamenting the lack of good Mexican food in Korea for years now. The only place that is even moderately good is the Oasis on Yongsan base. Unfortunately, I only get the rare invite to base.
Went to La Salsa Loca several weeks ago and like Mindmetoo, I got my hopes up when the scents filled my nose. But I knew I was in for shite when they asked my how much cilantro I wanted on my burrito. I hate what California (southern at least) has done to Mexican food. Besides Loca was overpriced beyond being bad (although my friend had a decent chicken salad, but again, not real Mexican food).
Chili Chili is a decent subsitute for Taco Bell, but again has too much of a California spin on it.
Panchos is a joke and they don't even do very good margs, although they're passable in a pinch.
The last place I know is up the hill towards the Hyatt. Had a mole, which I was juiced about when I saw it on the menu. Was awful and outrageously expensive.
Now, growing up in Colorado, I'm biased to smothered chicken burritos with green chili sauce. Only Oasis comes even close. I have to say that outside of Mexico, New Mexico has the best Mexican food, especially Santa Fe. For Mole in the U.S., head to Salt Lake City of all places. A place called the Red Iguana is incredible. I've also had really good Mexican food in a restaurant in Edinbourough, Scotland, so it is possible to get it outside Mexico and the SW US. |

New Mexico has killer New Mexican cuisine. New Mexican hatch chile is incredible, as is any recipe that is made with chile poblano. Posole- now there is a dish I would almost kill for.
Ah, to be sitting in a shady cafe in Santa Fe, drinking a nicely chilled locally brewed ale, and waiting for a steamy plate of green chile
chicken enchiladas and posole- oh, and with a side of fry bread and honey. Damn!
Or, better yet, to be there in October when the air is filled with the smell of desert herbs and roasting chiles. . .

Checked it out today with a friend from Monterrey, Mexico - he's been on the search for passable Mexican cuisine and was impressed by this. We were there mid-afternoon and had really speedy service - I got the chicken fahjita lunch special, and when we ran out of tortillas they quickly brought out another stack without asking. The salsa was really good, and the chips are the best nacho chips I've had in Korea.
I was impressed. The meal was fantastic, the service was amazing. It also got a really good recommendation from a real Mexican - what else does it need? |
