I got a job offer from them and was wondering if anyone knew or worked for the company BERLITZ before?

Also what is a "unit"? They said I would be teaching 160-210 units a month. Is a unit a classroom hour?

Oh dude, do a search on Berlitz. It sure does seem like the worst possible deal going. The pay is sub par and you don't get a free apartment and I think they only pay half your plane fare.

Check it out:

If waking up at 530 am for morning classes and working til 9ish pm for your evening classes sounds like your bag, then to quote a million koreans "I envy you".

Have you seen the contract yet? They sent me 1 only after I said I would take the job and I figured out then why they didn't just send it out right away. The contract along with the rules of Berlitz Korea must weigh about 2 pounds. I was hesitant about the teaching times but once I read the contract I couldn't stop laughing. It had to be the most 1 sided contract I have ever seen. Basically you'll be sitting around for hours wondering when you teach next-you're only guaranteed that you'll teach early in the morning and late at night. They also let you know that you won't be getting a lot of work initially as that goes to the teachers with seniority ie you get what they don't want. The best part of it all was that they were up front about what a hsit hole it is to work if you were willing to put in the time reading the novel they call a contract. And that guy who runs the place-Gerald something or other is a joke on the phone-sounds like he's never seen the inside of a university.

You only get your airfare when you have been there a while, don't get severance unless you stay on another year and are loaned key money at an exorbitant interest rate and apparently the apartment they'll put you up in when you 1st get there is a cell and you may have a roomy. Maybe people who have been there a while like it, but any place that comes across as bad as they do with some community college grad running it all (fashion design I believe someone told me)-well -you get my drift
