If I download or install some programs on my computer, they automatically go into Korean.
My friend downloads the same stuff or installs the same stuff and it is in English.
Help please. |

Toby, you have a knack for understatement.
I won't help until you do. |

Yep, change the non-unicode settings to English and you should be fine.
control panel > date time regional and language settings > regional and language options > advanced tab
and then change the setting in the drop down bar |

You might want to change the location your computer thinks you're at to an English speaking country. Some websites look at your location to determine which content to give you.
I think... |

All good advice.
In the future, one can also do an "explore" on a CD, allowing a CD which otherwise would autorun to be browsed. On these CDs (like NERO; in this case bundled or software actually purchased!), the CD will have many languages for the installer. Looking through the CD, you could probably find an "English" or "En" folder, and going into that, find an English installer.
Oddly enough, some games are like this as well. The English is on the CD, but for various reasons, the installer might default to Korean.
ladyandthetramp is onto something as well. I live in Armenia, but don't have those languages installed. Must give XP a headache, so it defaults to English. |

I thought there was just an English switch on the back of the computer. I'm having the same problem... could someone help me find the button, or do I need to go buy an English Language switching card to plop into my pc? |

Toby, did you get this solved. I just came here for the same reason and found your thread. I tried the advice about switching the language in my control panel.
That worked great for Nero. But my MSN Messenger is still all in Korean and some other stuff too. Anytime I click on the English link for MSN it automatically goes to the Korean page.
If anyone has a solution, please help!
Thanks. |

You gotta fly to Cairo and see a bicycle shop owner named Jahmed...he's the guy with the turban and the camel tied out front with the BUMper sticker "My other camel is a 2-hump"...he's got ot all man. Language cards, English PSUs, Windows eXPat and more discomdereflobulationizers than you can shake a stick at.
Yeah...it's a slow morning Jaz... |

that'll be a cookie I'll bet- the same as when you go to google and it automatically takes you to google.co.kr until you tell it your 'preferences'.
If you uninstall Messenger, go to this link
http://switch.atdmt.com/action/msn_im_en_US_main_landing_download_button?href=http://messenger.msn.com/download/
then download the new version, I reckon that'll be in english. |

Thanks for the tip.. anyway, if anyone else has this trouble - I just typed "MSN Messneger English version" into Yahoo and got one with no problem.
So I am halfway there, getting rid of all of this Korean stuff that I can't read! |

I would say that it is likely that when you went to the update page for MSN Messenger, the MS GUI sent you to get the Korean version of the program because your locale was set to Korea and everything showed up in Korean because you had your unicode set to Korean. Change your settings to reflect an English location and unicode, revisit www.msn.com, and reinstall messenger from scratch (it would be best to uninstall your previous version first). I would bet dollars for donuts that this will correct the problem. |
