I have one computer that doesn't have any IDE drives except a S-ATA for it's only primary drive. I tried re-installing the OS with the cd but it doesn't show me any partitions.

How can I do this?

Do you have any partitions made? When you put in the CD and boot to it, does it just show you one drive? If so, that would be your primary drive. I belive you can choose to make a pertition, or, failing that, use a third-party program like "partition magic" to make one after you install Windows.

Did the drive have a previous installation on it? If so, how many partitions did you have on the drive before?

Sorry...a little hard to understand exactly what you mean in your post. "How can I do this?", but you aren't asking anything.

I guess you can see the whole drive via the CD, but want to divide it into parts? (partitions). Just install Windows and you can make the partitions afterwards.

Some say this isn't a good idea (to partition after the install), but in this case, dividing a previously undivided drive to make an OS partition and a storage one for example, its quite safe. There is a good case for dividing the drive beforehand, which as I said previously, one can do with the Windows CD. Either way will work out.

I have a ASUS A8V Deluxe motherboard which supports EIDE and S-ATA drives, but because I only purchased one S-ATA drive, during boot the EIDE controller looks for drives then states that none were found and then says the controller isn't loaded or something...Under BIOS, the S-ATA drive isn't even listed as an option for the primary or secondary drives. Only under boot order is the S-ATA drive listed.
The computer store installed this and divided the partition into two halves. I've reinstalled the XP OS numerous times on a different computer but on this one, after the OS cd loads it's drivers, the partitions aren't even listed. This is also using a Korean version, which shouldn't make any difference.

You've probably done this, but in the head smack d'oh category -- are the pins set?

If you are using an older version of XP, XP didn't support SATA as it didn't exist. When the XP CD boots and reaches the screen that says "Press F6 to load hard disk drivers" or something, you'll need to press F6, eject the Windows CD, toss in the drivers CD for your SATA drive, and then continue.

Yes, you are correct. I should have read the manual.

When installing a second SATA drive under Windows XP that will not be used as the primary drive, what do you need to do in the BIOS to have your PC recognize the new drive?
