I hope they destroy them. Seriously. Time to take these illegals, destroy them financially, and kick them out.

Why the heck would anyone pull a coat over their heads?? That's a Korean thing. Heck, I'd give the lens a big finger.

Great... so they can bust a few guys who turned in bogus degrees. Now start cancelling the long-term multi-entry tourist visas for Canadians, and I'll be impressed that they're trying to do something. We all know that's where 70% of the problem lies... illegal teachers who are teaching here on Tourist Visas.

i would have to agree that the majority of Illegals are here on tourist visas. however, as for "where the problem lies" I think my biggest concern is about security checks. I am far more worried about people coming over here and working around children if they have criminal recods than if they are missing a degree.

Maybe so no one can tell if they are indeed foreigners or just random Koreans who work at immigration that are part of a protracted campaign to redeem their pride and trying to clean up their shite public rep for having swiss cheese visa policies and hapless enforcement of them? Given the govt's history of heavy-handed manipulation of the media, I'd take anything they spit out with a grain of salt.

According to a Korean friend the article says that the guy used to be U.S. military.

I don't read Korean well enough to tell myself.

I agree with Derrek and Im Canadian. I have no solidarity with people just because they are Canadians. If a teacher is caught teaching illegally, it threatens my and my family's livelihood. Canadian, Ameican, English, whatever. It makes legal teachers look bad and has consequences we cant forsee. They SHOULD cut the Canadian tourist visa down to a month. Its ridiculous as it stands now. 6 months!? WTF do you need a 6 month visa unless you are illegal?

The 6 month visa waver is a mutual agreement between Canada and Korea. Koreans get 6 months in Canada visa free as well. There are, no doubt, many many more Koreans who take advantage of the 6 month visa waver than Canadians in Korea. Where do you think most of the XXX Korean web porn is made and hosted? Canada.

Your middle and upper class Koreans would be the first to howl if a unilateral move by Korea put their 6 months in Canada in jeopardy.

Good point about Canadians getting 6 months just by showing up at the airport....

immigration needs to do some serious grilling and they do not have to give a full 6 months..as I understand that is the maximum...does the law say they must stamp 6 months?? I do not think so...most immigration officers in other nations have the discretion to grant UP TO THE MAXIMUM...

the rules for Americans, I suppose, alleviates part of the problem...we get 30 days without a visa and 90 with one (yeah, I know it is multiple entry but "Why are you coming to Korea every 3 months if you are NOT ON BUSINESS???"

it comes down to stupid rules and no enforcement

Well, there are a lot of Canadians who have Korean grandparents. As Canadian snowbirds like to spend the winter months in Florida, I can imagine a lot of Korean grandparents like to spend their summers with their ex pat children and grandchildren in cool, clean Canada. By the same token, there are a lot of Canadians of Korean heritage that might like to go back to the mother country and spend time there.

It's all about reciprocity the koreans know that if they cut down on the 6 month tourist stay for canadians then then the canadians will do the same thing to koreans wanting to visit canada.

It has nothing to do with "stamps" and "maximum". Once you have gained entry to the country it's pretty much automatic. You don't need to spend six months...but you can spend UP to six months without a problem.
