Sent email to hanmail.net (daum) user and rejected two times as follows, this shortly after I'd received an email from them saying hello.

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at yahoo.com.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following
addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.
<[email protected]>:
Connected to XXX.XX.XXX.XX but connection died. (#4.4.2)
I'm not going to try again; this message has been in the queue too
long. |

Yeah I got gmail for that too, but initially Hanmail put my messages into the recipients' spam folder -- had to tell the person I sent them an email and to check their spam folder... |

This has been happening for years.
I gave my students e-mail homework one time.
These are my findings:
Hotmail cannot send to Hanmail
Hanmail can send to Hotmail
Hotmail cannot send to Nate
Nate can send to Hotmail
Hope this helps |

Recently? Been happening for a while. This is a good example of the discussion in the Korea Herald re: "global" means "local". |

hehe great point to bring up mjroach.
well I remember this happening with hotmail back in late 90s or 2000.
However I sent 2 emails from same yahoo address to another hanmail (daum) user in March over a 1 week period and they went through flawlessly. So it must be in line with what mercury said, up and down every few weeks.
However I've sent mails for the last week, rejected all, and perhaps what's most irritating is that the mails always take at least 3 days to get rejected.
I too wonder how Korea ever could think this somehow works into the universal scene, at all. |

This was the first thing I had to resolve in my mind by going "Well, it makes zero sense. Why would they do this? I dunno. Mantra time: Why? Because this is Korea. Move along."
I find you have to do that from time to time for things that make no sense. Like why people choose to wait for their friend right in front of one of three subway turnstiles, creating a short line for the available turnstiles... Why? Because this is Korea. |

I will join the chorus. I have experienced problems sending and receiving e-mail to (or from) Korean e-mail services. Hotmail and Hanmail seem to have some problems. Yahoo and Hanmail also seem to have some problem. Gmail has had some problems with Korean. |

Yeah, this happened to me a few months ago. There's only one girl I email who has a hanmail account. She finally switched over to yahoo so that solved the problem. |

Just curious, then, before I get a Korean email address . . . I'd like something that doesn't block certain domains, and doesn't put my messages in a spam folder. What would you all recommend? Hanmail? Yahoo? Nate? Or should I just get a gmail account? (Oh, and of course something that can read Asian fonts, too; my Yahoo account now doesn't) |
