So, we are out in some kind of outdoor park, marching through the trees. I'm at the head of the line, though I'm not sure why as I have NO idea where we are all going. We've got nearly 70 kindergarteners and preschoolers following along behind us with four waygooks, and 6-9 Koreans (not sure if I should count the bus driver or the poor guy hauling a multitude of boxes). Anyway, since I AM at the head, I start feeling like we should be doing something officially educationalish sounding. Since my class has been working on the five senses a little every day, I decide to call their attention to the fresh air. I instruct everyone to take a deep breath, and demonstrate. Then I ask them, what do you smell? Jae-Kyoung hollers out, "Snot!" Laughing Laughing

One activity the kindie kids seem to like is erasing the board after saying bye-bye to what ever's been written or drawn on it - 'bye-bye elephant, bye-bye tiger', etc. Last week one kid had drawn a picture of his father, and as we were erasing the board he paused and said 'Apa, anhyahakaseyo!'.

Teaching kindergarteners and preschoolers can be very enjoyable. However, one dongchim maniac can motivate you to move to a more mature group.

I consider myself lucky that I teach kindergarten three hours a day. I wish I could teach ONLY kindergarten ALL day long. Though, then again, I'd miss my elementary school kids....

By the way, this thread is for precious kindergarten moments, not for people who never should have taught kindergarten in the first place to complain about the little people. I'll leave the threads about Korean women and getting drunk alone if you leave this one alone. Sad

Every moment in a kindy class is a precious moment -- no joke, even the worst ones. I love my job. Very Happy

I'm just happy if I can get through my 45 minutes of kindie per day with no one crying. The only thing I love about it is that my class is that it's at the far end of the corridor and no one ever looks in to see that absolutely no learning is happening most of the time.

Oh dear... To be fair, I can't control new classes by myself -- but their regular teacher comes with them for the first few months and does most of the classroom management while I teach the ones who are interested (the great majority out of the kids are interested). An amazing amount of learning happens in my 25-30 minute classes, but without their regular teachers helping out, it would be chaos. It gets better after awhile though, and then I don't need these lovely helpers.

Kids cry in my classes too -- the most common reason for a big crying jag is when two of them get up to sing a song with actions and bump heads. One day this happened twice to the same kid (with two other kids) during one short class! Also, one girl in one of my 5-year olds classes cries if I don't single her out and talk to her at least once every few minutes. I can see it coming on -- her mouth starts to turn down very slowly and then she starts sniffing, but I've learned how to comfort her without interrupting the flow of the class.

They're really all so sweet... I have 160 students and there is only one that I haven't learned to like yet. But I'm trying Confused .

160?
That is too much sweetness.
Well, you might burnout.

Or Grace. Really, it's happened. More than once.
