Hey Guys,

Just wondering if anyone has noticed the same phenomenom..

Unlike back home, where most obese kids are shy and picked on (and I'm not saying thats right, by any means..) I find that almost all of my larger male students aged 10+ are the bullies of the class. They all seem to be rude, arrogant, obnoxious, and downright unbearable sometimes. They all seem to have egos even larger than their stomachs. To top it off, most of them are either stupid and/or just don't give a rats ass about learning english.

Anyone else have a similar pattern going on in their school?[/b]

I've noticed that back home, poor kids were harder to teach, they were p&^%#d off. Here the poor kids are much more respectful, the rich kids are spoilt & very young for their age. Teaching at the Y & elementary schools over here, much better behaved kids.
This is just my experience.

Last year I worked in a rich neighbourhood, and this year a working class, factory neighbourhood. Two months at the new area/job. I notice what you say seems true. The 'poor' kids are more respectful and easier to teach. The spoilt, rich kids at the previous neighbourhood blase and acting up like mad.
Last night I watched two fat b*stard bullies try to jump vertically up less than a foot to touch a lightcord. They couldn't do it. I laughed at them, challenging them. One took a thirty foot run at it and succeeded. This same guy is big, mouthy trouble and gets pulled over for the wonjonim to deal with regularly. His teacher is 200 kg. mac and cheese rugby player which means nothing to this little guy.

I teach 1,200 middle school boys of all shapes, sizes, and wealth. The only thing constant is that they are boys. totally unpredictable, smelly but also kind and funny.

I don't think that you can sterotype them at all. I have fat kids that are sweet and want to learn english. I got skinny ones who I want to throw out the window.

I'll ask him today how many kgs he is exactly and get back to you. I'm 110 kgs, and I'm just a little guy compared to this mac and cheese behemoth.

This is also true in many North American schools, surprising as it may seem.

I have had students like that, but they are often pretty quiet until set off by students picking on them. Names like (dway-ji) or յ (wang-ta) usually set my kids into a rage. I don't condone the violence, but I'm quick to punish the name caller before the "bully" gets worked up.

It's hard to know exactly what happened when you can't understand them, and the kids lack the English to tell you, so they usually just start crying when punished.

This one gets my vote for ignorant comment of the week. Also makes me feel sorry for you as you're obviously in Korea because you can't hold a job in your home country because of all the "fat people" preventing you from getting ahead.
