|
|
Do any of you work for a branch of SLP?
My co-worker had two children in that hagwon. Now she does not.
Here's why:
I have never worked there personally, but the SLP school near my old school had a horrible reputation. Teachers would work there for 5 months, then leave -- or be fired... depended on the teacher.
I've seen SLP referred to as "Slave Labor Program" by teachers on this board.
My co-worker and I were discussing which hagwon her children attend. She said, SLP, and I joked that some foreign teachers refer to that hagwon as "Slave Labor Program," and I chuckled. She was not thrilled at hearing this, and asked me if I could recommend another place. I did, and she now sends her children to a different school -- even after I explained that it was a different SLP branch, and hers might be totally fine.
The moral of this story is, we need to spread the news about "bad" hagwons and chains to the Koreans we know. It will hurt the bad businesses, and can only help force them to change.
Besides, it kind of feels good. |

Ah yes, it must feel great for the owner of the good hakwon in the "bad" chains that lose money simply because there are some nuggets out there owning bad schools in the same name.
Yeah, just great. Don't ever complain about a franchise in its entirety. No chain is inherently bad. I have no problem warning about individual locations and actually want that kind of reporting. But saying it's fun to cause good people to lose money is just low and disgusting.

I'd definitely not send my kids to the one where I work.
Whenever I meet parents who can speak some English and send their kids to hogwon I always recommend they talk to the FT directly and request to be given an honest appraisal of their child and the learning environment. |

Please don't write this, it irritates me for some reason, possibly because another "I am the king of Korea who know all, bow before me newbs and kiss my..." poster uses it. Plus I don't know what it means, do you? |

Hey, would you try one of their new Pita Shrimp... um... things, if I paid? I think they're rather good for fast-food. Pricy, though. Try that one, then knock it all you want.

Yes, exactly. Right now the vast majority of chains have zero quality control, that needs to change. |

A good point - chains allow their reputation to sour, so it serves them right if they all get a bad rep. They're probably afraid to lose the money from selling material to the bad ones, so they put up with them, just like hogwan directors keep bad students who ruin everything. |
