I was fortunate enough to get married a couple weeks ago and I am now going through the process of getting her US Visa. Has anyone gone through this? Can you tell me the procedure that you had to go through? I am an American and my wife is Korean.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. |

First, Congradulations! I myself just got married to a Korean man (I'm also American).
It's going to be a huge headache to get the visa, no lies there. I just looked through the US embassy homepage and I am to very overwhelmed with the process.
To get an immigrant visa for her, you'll be her sponser. You need to fill out an affadivit of support and give the last three years of your tax returns. I think you need to prove that you make 10% above the poverty line in order to sponser her (they want to see that you won't mooch off the system).
It will probably be a 4-6month process. She'll need to go through some interviews, get an extensive health check and criminal check, and you need to get through that tax crap. Sorry that's all I know. Check out www.asktheconsul.org and they have the information for the Immigrant visa.
Good luck...I hope we can both get through this red tape. It will happen...it just will take quite awhile. |

i made it back to the states a few weeks ago with my korean wife. we started the visa process last summer. without any snags, it can be done in about four months. the hardest part is showing proof of support for your wife (you will be her sponsor), and proof of residency in america.
just to be clear, the hold up is not the embassy. rather, collecting all the required documents takes time. go to the embassy site and follow the instructions. they are also in korean. youre wife will need to read that as well. it's involved.
you can PM me if you have specific questions. i dont check this site as much as i used to, about once a week, though. |
