also.. can you get a card from master card or visa online..?
but when it says where do you live do you say korea? or your home address?
I have never had a credit card and thought it would be cool to get one..
how to go about it best? |

I got a secured one from the bank last week. Aside from a minor paperwork snafu, it was easy as pie. |

Yes. Samsung. 5,000,000 monthly limit. Offered to any teachers who are at least into their second consecutive contract at a university. |

I got one from KEB. You have to put down some cash for it I put down 2 million (minimum of 1.5) because the bank has had runners but it seems like a good deal for those who haven't been here very long. |

Samsung card, 2.5 mill limit. Enough for me, frankly. I guess it was because I was working at a uni hagwon when I applied. Or because it was a provincial uni and was approved by the Daejeon office as opposed to the Seoul office. Hard to say. Also, it was only three months into my first uni visa, first visa of any kind actually. Nobody mentioned anything about having to be on a second contract. The E-1 status vis a vis E-2 status seems to be a big part of the approval process. |

That would be fun, tell your friends back home you have a 2.5 million limit on your credit card. |

I got a credit card way back in my uni days. Use it for travel expenses or when I didn't budget well enough for the month. The credit limit was originally $2,500 U.S. back in 2000, but they keep increasing the limit and it's up to 9K now. I'm like, "What the hell am I going to use 9K on?"
Considering your situation itaewonguy, it's probably easier for you to get a credit card here in Korea than try to get one back home, since your credit back home probably doesn't exist. |
