Quick query I'm hoping someone could clear up for me...

I'm starting a job in Seoul at the end of May. It states I'll be getting 2.0 before tax. If Im paying tax in Korea does that mean I'm exempt from paying tax in the UK when I go home or should I expect to be welcomed with a mammoth tax bill?

Cheers.

I don't think there's any danger of getting a tax bill but it may be worth officially registering as overseas for tax purposes just to cover yourself.

I did get a big National Insurance bill after a few years away, still wondering what to do with that one.

For UK tax purposes, if you are outside the UK working for more than 163 days, you are considered an overseas resident. So, if you complete a year long contract, you don't have to worry about income tax.

You can make voluntary contributions for your National Insurance, thereby keeping your stamps up to date.

Yeah but make sure you pay the right kind. Class 3 and class 2 differ very little in coverage but hugely in price. Go for Class 2 and pay way less.
