Typhoon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The kids love it.
There are some other good ideas there too, but some of them are just not adaptable to my classes.
The best games I use now are ones that I re-designed to be more suitable for hagwan classes.
A game that gets kids asking questions is called "bananas". (from David Paul's book)
I think it's similar to "hot seat", but I haven't played that game so I'm not sure.
One student sits up front and answers "bananas" to every question hurled him/her. If they break a smile, they are out and the next student can try.
You can be more creative and have a different answer word than bananas. Some I've used: Yes, No, me, you, him, mud, dog food, c-o-c-k-r-o-a-ches, monkey brains.
It works best if I keep writing new example questions on the board, otherwise the students seem to run out of steam after a bit.
One problem I've always had with new games is how to explain the rules to the class so that they can play it properly. Especially with the younger groups, it's really hard to get them to understand how to play things like
Simon says, or What time is it Mr. Wolf.
Every time I've tried those the class has been disasterous. At least I thought so.
Anyway,
