I wonder if that 3% includes my friend. A few years ago, just after the wedding, my friend had a company dinner after work. Came home hot to trot. His wife refused. (I consider that abuse, don't you?) So he took off all his clothes and went outside to the apt building courtyard and danced and sang in the rain, figuring it would embarrassed the little woman into changing her mind. It didn't. |

FACTS AND FIGURES: FAMILY VIOLENCE IN CANADA
One estimate holds that in over 70% of cases, women struck the first blow (Bland, R., & Orn, H. Family violence and psychiatric disorder. Can J Psychiatry 1986; 31: 129-137); women are more often implicated in physically abusing a child than are men (Straus M A, Gelles R J, Steinmetz S. Behind closed doors: violence in the American family. Garden City, NY: Anchor Press/Doubleday, 1980).

Wives Found Far Richer than their Spouses
A survey indicated married Korean women manage an average of W14.4 million (about US$12,000) of "secret funds" without the knowledge of their spouses, who in turn had only W3.4 million (about US$3,000) kept aside -- or a mere quarter of how much their wives have tucked aside.

Dude, the men are spending it on room salons, barber shops, karaoke places with girls, etc.
And in Korean society, the women usually manage the money for the couple. As my Korean female friend put it, it's sort of the woman's responsibility to stash some cash in case of an emergency. It doesn't mean she won't share it with her husband.
That's why. |

Marriage More Expensive for Man
When it comes to getting married, Korean men usually spend five times more than women.

43 percent of married women in 'other man' syndrome
More than 43 percent of 16,947 married women aged between 24 and 35 said they are seeing someone other than their husbands and 57.3 percent of them are engaged in sexual relationships

The Wallets of Those in Their 50's Are Clammed Shut
Starting this year, Mrs. Kim (51, Jeonju), a housewife, has decided to start "restructuring consumption" to reduce the monthly cost of living from 2,000,000 won to 1,500,000 won. She has substantially decreased the cost of living, which takes up half of the 4,000,000 won salary of her husband, who works at a medium-sized company. If you exclude the 500,000-won repayment of student loans for her children, the net cost of living is merely 1,000,000 won. This year Mrs. Kim has even given up her annual trip with her husband, a tradition of 20 years, and has ceased going to the hairdresser. She personally dyes her hair with a 5,000-won dye.

Whoa barber shops??? Is getting a haircut really that expensive? I'm just curious because I'm not in Korea yet and I usually like keeping my hair short getting a cut every 2 weeks... |

No one (or at least no smart ones) actually get a haircut there - massage and "service" yes, haircut... no |
