I know I've posted before about my bad contract and crappy hagwon that I've been stuck with but I could really use a bit of furren support right now. First off, when I got here two teachers were leaving and and one piece of poo was in the process of getting fired, he was actually that bad. So me and a now infamous fradulent american teacher were hired on the scene. Anyways, soon thereafter a nice enough guy gets hired on as well and everything seems peachy. The P.O.P got fired and things were cool in the office. Suddenly my world began to crumble around me. The american guy gets hauled off to immigration because of a fake diploma and me and the nice guy get saddled with all his hours, before we were both working around thirty eight hours and suddenly I'm working forty one and he's working forty two with little to no gratitude and the vice principal, a mindless puppet for the director or as we call her 'el presidente' tells us that we're all "helping each other" which is really bullshit because he's not helping us one damn bit. The V.P. is so scared of el presidente that whenever we have issues he tells us that it's too bad and if we don't like it we can leave, rather than approaching the queen in her throne room. So nice guy pulls a runner to Taiwan and suddenly I'm the only damn waygook in sight now pulling forty-two classes a week and my VP offers me some wack over time with a weak smile and again reminds me that "we're all helping each other". As an aside none of the Korean teachers like him either because of his lack of taking control of a pretty messed up situation, seemingly waiting for someone to fall in his lap, preferably young and female. Anyways, long story short after six months I'm out of this popsicle stand! Whew, I had to get that off my chest.

Offers support. Find another place, you know when you are asked to pull crazy hours week after week the schools motivation isn't better learning for the kids.

Good luck.

This is a good post for those considering a midnight run to keep in mind. The teachers left behind suffer.

yeah but i tried to leave my contract legally, gave them notice and was then consequently screwed out of 2.0 million won. if your boss is do-do then being honest is NOT the way to go.

sorry to hear that your situation blows. i hope it gets better!

You're getting paid overtime for all of this, right?

It's way too many hours. I'd wait until payday, then give them notice, as stipulated in your contract.

I originally was just going to quit but after close inspection of my contract I realized that I would be expected to reimburse the school for my visa trip, airfare, blah, blah, blah.... So I'd pretty much be screwed out of my whole next paycheck and since I've only been here two months, I'd be broke and on the street. Plus the school would probably just refuse to give me a release letter to be spiteful. That's why I'm trying to hold out for six months.

Why not help them out?

I've been in a similar situation, but eventually other F/T's were hired and from then on in I got one very sweet ride. In the meantime while I worked my butt off I made plenty.

Make hay while the sun shines.

Plenty negatives on this thread.

Thanks for the advice squid but I've been making hay for over a month and a week now since the american got busted not to mention I got stuck taking care of his cats the whole time which includes cleaning the litter box. I'm tired of making hay! And if I didn't believe in omens before the last two months then I sure do now! I mean I've seen teachers go in every way imaginable since I've been here, first fired, then busted by immigration, then a runner. What next? (I know I've jinxed myself by saying that)
