Another report today in the Herald of a Union - this time for Foreign Students -- once again the teachers are left with nothing --
But it looks like something in the wind -- the Efl-law forum will announce the formation of a U or Association or legal aid --
http://efl-law.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=2403#2403
For me , I like the idae of Legal Aid -- the thought of a U has heavy conotations --
Just watch the Press jump on this -- the last bastion of foreigners perpetually crushed and stomped on by Korean employers will now have a way to fight back.... |

Its foolish for the Koreans to go forward without someone to talk to on these matters. They can take advice from whatever they like but as long as its only the hogwans owners association, there will be only trouble. The gov't will eventually realize that. |

Where is the link for the foreign students union?
I don't know if a stand alone foreign teacher union will ever work here. The bulk of teachers don't really seem to be committed to much outside of their own sphere of existence to help finacially or otherwise other teachers that they don't know. They are here for a year or two and then leave.
The times that they would want a union is when they are in trouble.
Where would the funding come from for such a thing? How would it be organized?
I can't imagine that the big hogwon chains would be opening their doors to let this sort of organization in. Perhaps you could tap into the teachers in the EPIK/GEPIK programmes if the powers that be were ammenable but otherwise it would be very hard to organize. |
