I have been offered a job in Pyeongcheon and have not been able to find out much about the area. Anyone either know a good website or links, or preferably lives there and can give me the low down on it? I have lived in Korea before so I am mostly trying to find out what the area offers in terms of the conveniences of life.
Thanks! |

I live a couple of stops from there. In terms of conveniences theres a Walmart right next to the subway. Theres a cinema there too and a nice park and a Bennigans. Theres a hagwon street so lots of english teachers and its close to Rockssins bar, Anyang where the fantastically brilliant open mic night is every 2nd Friday next ones tomorrow yippee!!
hope this helps a little |

Great location....I miss it terribly. I lived near downtown Anyang which is pretty close by (couple of subway stops from Pyeongcheon). Many foreigners really like the pyeoncheong area. I take it you will work in the hagwon-ga area, which is the street full of hagwons. Many opportunities to meet foreigners. This area is great....still close to Seoul but still "outside" of it. As Oni said, Rockissins on Anyang 1st street is pretty good for live music every friday. ...there's also a couple of regular foreign bar hangouts in Pyeongchon that I heard are pretty good too, but the name escapes me. Fridays, foreigners get together in pyeongchon but I think they disperse to other parts of Seoul on Saturday night...at least that's what it was like for me...
Many, many conviences you'll find in Pyeongchon....there's quite a few western restaurants and Walmart off Pyeongchon station..if that's what you are looking for....
Wish I could go back |

I like Pyeongchon. I used to date a girl there, and it seemed like a really enjoyable area. Also, it's not too far from Seoul to be in the boonies.
Just don't work for Pyeongchon Wonderland. |

Lived their for a year, sweet place and I still visit twice a week for business.
Amenities Lotte Mart
Walmart
Carrefour
Emart supermarkets all within a 2000 ride
Craploads of foreigners
Plenty of after-school classes
Morak mountain, my favorite mountain for some reason in Korea, maybe it's the giant rock I used to sit on in the mornings to have a coffee and read the newspaper, affording an amazing view of Anyang city and beyond.
Beguin Lake, nice place to hang out, go to a lake side restaurant, rent a row boat or go for a ride on the banana boat in the summer. |
