Teachers Face Annual Evaluation
Under the plan, students and parents will evaluate teachers and school administrators, while teachers and principals also evaluate one another. The Education Ministry and parents say evaluations are necessary to deal with the laxity of some teachers and to weed out unqualified instructors. The ministry decided that rather than reflect the results in promotions and salaries, it would first use them as a basis to develop educators' skills.

| or they could, uhm, you know, invest in say...smaller class sizes, proper teacher education. All of those passe words that are usually associated with "higher taxes" and are therefore, pushed off to the side and seen as unnecessary |

my school's teachers have been busy organizing a petition about it. I wouldnt' be surprised if there are a couple of strikes.
Personally I think that they need to start lowering class sizes, and having more peer evaluation. Parents and kids aren't great judges of teaching abilty. And those open classes are such a waste of time. They don't evaluate teaching, the evaluate the apperance of it. Most of the kids will be coached for weeks before an open class, there's an effective use of time. |
