A strange incident at my favorite local Galbi restaurant in Daechi-dong on Saturday night.

I go there every week with my girlfriend and we have come to expect a pretty high standard. It's a new place which does this awesome Daegi Galbi which hangs off a foot-long bone!! Great stuff!

Anyway, out come the side-dishes and the obligatory kimchi. I take a piece of kimchi and immediately notice a distinct, very unpleasant chemical taste. I ask my girl to try and she gets the same taste. Horrible!! It took 5 shots of soju to clean out my mouth!!

So we tell the waitress about this and she gives a little laugh and says, yes, everyone is complaining tonight about the kimchi and the cook reckons it's from a bad batch of cabbage.

My immediate thought was.....Why on earth are they continuing to put this chemical kimchi out on the tables??!!

My girls answer? Bad kimchi is better than none at all!
