Well, found out wonderful news this morning: all the Korean teachers didn't show up to work this morning and my boss is bankrupt. The institute is still open but I'm unlikely to see any money. It's a real shame because my adult students don't know this and I'm basically working for free for the next couple of weeks because I feel sorry for the students, whom I really enjoy working with.
Now, here's the complicated part. I'm definitely gonna quit. I JUST submitted all the documents for my F2 visa, so I'm kind of in visa limbo. Should I tell immigration about this (would that affect my visa-in-waiting) or should I just wait till I get my F2 visa and leave the hagwon immediately after that? As an F2 visa-holder, do I need a signed letter of release, especially since my boss has fled and is nowhere to be found?
Any help would be appreciated. I would think that after teaching in Korea for over 2 years that I would learn to choose wisely...guess not. Evil or Very Mad

That sounds like a real mess. I don't know what you should do.

But good luck.

That's unfortunate about your job.

I would just wait until you get your F2 back from immigration, I think it only takes a week doesn't it? Then you're free to move on to another job without having to leave the country. I think you don't even need a letter of release.

It's best not to confuse those idiots at immigration. Just make everything as simple as possible for them. Otherwise, they'll figure out some way to load you with extra fees and more paperwork.

Hope it all works out for you.

Thanks...yes, I'm supposed to get my F2 visa this friday...I even think immigration automatically cancelled my current E2 and wants me to submit paperwork again from my hagwon in order to keep working. I just will tell them Friday that I just want the F2. Once I get the F2...draggin my boss to labor board.

I say good for you. You're better off away from that place that wanted you to work illegally, trying to pimp you out to a second school. Your boss deserves a nice little visit to a labor board proceeding.

Ah, the F2 visa, I always wanted one of those, minus the wife it comes with.

Until it closes (in some official way) you are entitled to the visa.

I recommend getting it - no-one at IMM is likely to be the wiser
and then do whatever you want

dont sweat big brother - he is definitely not as smart, or insidious as you paranoid types love to believe

if your worried, just get an extension of sojourn at immi.
reason: waiting for Visa, they will just say ok and you just show the visa when you go pick it up.

That is not good for you but is the first time i have heard all the Korean teachers banding together and sticking it up the hagwon boss' clacker.

Good on them for standing up for themselves....i hope it works out for you.
