Hello All:
Well, in the mail today we received notice that the government education people in Jeju are going to have a special mandatory meeting for foreign teachers on Saturday May 14, 2005.
The last one of these clusterf**ks was held about 3 years ago and was held on the same day and time as the meeting for the Hogwan owners annual get together.
This mandatory meeting, which was apparently decided upon a couple of days ago - after 3 years of not having one - will not be held in conjunction with the owners meeting. It is just a special meeting for the foreign hogwan teachers, as I understand it. The owners get together is around the first week of June according to what I read.
I find it incredibly interesting that, after 3 years, this meeting just happens to fall on the same day as the EFL Law conference where they will be discussing a Teachers Association/Federation/Union and teachers legal rights. Due to its mandatory nature hogwan owners can, in effect, require their foreigners to stay on Jeju to ensure they can't attend any "other" meetings.
I guess I am just a budding conspiracy theorist, but I just don't believe in coincidences like I used to.
Anyway, I just thought it was interesting. |
