I ordered my sandwich and poured myself a cup of water, using those plastic cups they set out with the "Free Water" pitcher.

As I was waiting for my sandwich, I kept getting this peculiar strawberry taste. At first I thought maybe something got on my lips. Then I tasted the rim of the cup I was using, and it tasted like strawberry.

They had been re-using the disposable plastic cups and not washing them well.

UGH!!

I told the lady about it, and she tried to say that the cup must have picked up something from the towel. Only that didn't make sense, because I took a cup off of the TOP of the stack.. not the bottom.

Just thought I'd warn you about that... gross.

I've heard very vague and unsubstantiated rumors about fast food places reusing the used paper cups that they collect.

Considering the drive for profit, the Korean government's passivity when dealing with food hygience matters, and the Korean public's insouciance about food hygiene in general ("here, share my cup," "let's eat at that small, dirty, ramyun-jip down the street"), such stories do not surprise me.

I'm pretty sure that about 1/3 to 1/2 of the look what happened to me threads are started by derrek/gollum in his quest for attention.

Nope, it's the truth. Why would I go online and damage the reputation of a store if it didn't happen? There's no reason. I eat at the Sandspresso near my home in Bundang at least once a week, and I like it. I'll steer clear of the Itaewon location, though!

And Grotto will like this: when I was buying my hard drive at Yongsan yesterday, this nice girl brought around slices of watermelon for all of the guys working at the shop where I bought my defective hard drive. She kept sneezing on them as she walked around delivering them. Glad she didn't ask me if I wanted one!

A very safe bet there superhero...I would say however that your figures are conservative. Laughing Laughing

It is true Derrek...it seems to happen to you or your Gollum all the time...you must go looking for it or be the unluckiest person in Korea. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Sandsspresso serves a pretty mean bagel for Korea.

I have been known to take my water cup from the "used" pile in a student cafeteria. Embarassed Hey! Each cafeteria is set up a little differently, and my reading skills are not up to par.

(I won't tell the other person I brought water for, but if you are reading this, Oppa...)

Never order draft beer in korea, especially mugs and especially in a busy bar. Bars will fill your mug with the left over beer from tables that have gone. One night in Geckos I observed the bartender do this and then the waitress tried to serve me that diseased swill. Needless to say I didnt drink that one.

Yeah, I was drinking out of the used pile at my school for at least the first three weeks because there's no sign indicating which is used and which is "clean"; the only indication is that dirty are turned up, "clean" are turned down.

After I found out how the cook washes the cups though, I realized it doesn't make much difference. All she does is run them under cold water for a second.
