I need DETAILS.

I bought my Nikon coolpix 5200 at Yongsan a few months back and have been unable to figure out how to get my movies from the camera onto the computer. The user manual they gave me was in Japanese, so I downloaded it and Picture Perfect in English. I emailed Nikon asking for help but they told me "it's in the manual". Maybe I'm missing something, but the manual had sqat.

I need serious help. I know I have to change the format but can't figure out how - what programs should I use? I've got a Sony laptop with a few Sony music and movie programs and other ones I've downloaded. Windows media player will only give me sound with no picture, for example, and I'd like to edit them a bit and copy to a CD to send home.

My card is getting filled up with little videos that I'm afraid to delete until I can be sure they aren't lost forever. I'm pretty decent on a computer (compared to, say, my mom), but if you can send me intructions, details are great.

Thanks so much!

If the 5200 is like my 4300, you can buy a small reader box for CFII cards at any Homeplus/Carrefour/etc. for under 20,000 if your cable does not work. The reader accepts your card and connects to your USB slot on your computer.

Nikon insists on a strange Apple format (it's not even regular Quicktime) for its movie files. Download a .mov to .avi program on a shareware site, or try tmpgenc; the site has a .mov plugin. Hopefully this helps.

what cable are you talking about? I have my camera connected to download my pics and that works fine - is it a different cable for the movies?

I'll try the programs you suggested. Thanks!

Download Quicktime in in English and you should be able to watch the videos. I had the same problem as you did. You can download the English version of the program if you want. However, I found that an English copy of Quicktime is all that's needed to view those files.
