If one member of the herd is stirred, the WHOLE herd starts running. It happens all of the time in Africa (on the wild plains), and I see the same thing here. The most recent cases involve the nurses who posted the photos of the babies on the internet. Before that it was the Japanese flag burning, before that is was the U.S flag burning. This is a culture that "feels". There is a limited amount of logic, follow the herd, and sense the danger in the air. I see it in sports as well. I first witnessed this about 7 years ago while watching the World Cup match between Mexico and South Korea. South Korea lost and the t.v showed hundreds of people CRYING! I could not believe it. So the rules seem to be:

1. Alway get ready to run or react the same as everyone in the herd.
2. Don't wander too far off, you may need to run with the group!
3. When one of us is "spooked" we all must support him or her.
4. When one of us is hurt, it hurts all of us.

It is kind of fun to just sit back and watch! Who knows where the herd will run to next!

I've seen comments on this phenomenon in Korean papers. They say things like "Koreans are known to be passionate, going hot and cold rapidly". The Koreans I know readily admit to it, but dislike the 'herd' comparison. There is a certain sensitivity to being compared to animals.

One thing to remember is that you're the wolf/lion and not to spook them. Either this or else get out of the way when they stampede.

I agree with that! I am just thankful that no teacher here has committed some crime that could get us all "trampled". It would take just one event, one bad teacher who could forever change our lives.
