Koreans will never admit when they are in the wrong.
Classic example yesterday:
I bought a shirt from Hamilton Shirts in Itaewon. I liked a certain shirt in the window, and asked for the same identical shirt. The lady found the swatch of fabric on the wall (on the most expensive 100% Cotton wall area), cut off a piece, and wrote up my size, etc. The next week I returned to pick up my shirt.
I am happy with the shirt I got, however while wearing it, I noticed that it stretches sort of like a rubber band and snaps back. I asked someone I know. who studied fashion merchandising, what was in it to make it stretch. She said, "It's definately not 100% Cotton -- it has something else in it (I forget what material she said)."
So I went back to the store to order another shirt, but I wanted to point out this mistake to the old halmony working there. As it just so happened, my friend was in Itaewon with me. She explained that I had been overcharged, and that the material is not 100% cotton.
"No, no.... the cotton in the shirt is 100% cotton." The lady explained.
Me asking friend to translate, "But the shirt isn't 100% cotton. It's cotton plus something else. The shirt is overpriced."
"No, no... it is 100% cotton" the old woman insisted.
My Korean friend, who used to make clothes for a living, rolled her eyes. As we turned around to walk out, the old woman chased us, offering a discount on the next shirt. I wasn't interested in a discount. I'd like to see her admit she's wrong.
Soooo typically Korean.
Some of you might remember my story about the floor in my apartment, which was repaired last month. It was "my" fault for putting a chair on it, causing the wooden floor to curl up around the edges. Yes, it was my fault for making the mistake of placing a chair on my floor. |

You ever dream of being a sociologist? You generalize so well from so little evidence. You may have a future yet.
(No offence to real sociologists. ) |

Troll
Then again, I suppose I could just run away and hide in another country, simply because I can't function in a society where people don't agree with my political beliefs, right Des?
Hey, do you suppose I'm the only person in Korea that has experienced Koreans who won't admit they're wrong? |

A true sociologist would describe it as "saving face."
Come on Derrek, I know you must have another example or two to back up this generalization. |

Here come the apologists.
And I have to laugh at the comments made by bum, who argues that Aljazera is a credible news source. |

This has nothing to do with apologists and everything to do with the trollish nature of this and many of your posts. One Korean does not admit that they are wrong but you then generalize that to all Koreans. That is racist and wrong. The amount of negativity coming out of your posts after having been here so long suggests to me that you either need a good vacation or to go back home.
Face up, you are a troll and a negative person. When was the last time you posted something nice about Koreans? or anyone for that matter? Perhaps there is a reason you get derreked all the time, you earn it.

Grow up, in the so called 'real world', instead of the assumed fantasy world' where she is working, she not only would last more than a minute, she would probably flourish!
Am I correct to assume that you are so ignorant to believe that only businesses in the 'western world' are 'real' and the rest of the world is somehow 'unreal', and that 'real' world businesses are honest?
As for Derreck, he's simply a bigot. Now I know he's going to come back and say all his best friends are Korean, Mexican or Nigerian and that his bestest buddy when he was growing up was a black-American. But his posts plainly refute that. He's such a negative person I wonder why he stays in Korea, but I believe he would be unhappy and out of place where ever he went. |
