Hey everyone,
I've seen topics about skateboarding and skate parks around Seoul but what I enjoy is longboarding (if you don't know it's a longer version with larger wheels and is for cruising, not tricks). Does anyone meet up for longboarding around Seoul? Also, is it illegal or frowned upon to longboard on the street or sidewalks? I'll be living in Dongtan so I'm hoping it would be safer than doing it in central Seoul. I'm sure plenty of people ride bicycles to their schools but I plan on longboarding. |

Korea seems like the "anti-skateboarding" country to me. Where could you cruise? On the streets? If you have a deathwish. When there are sidewalks, they are often made of those crappy little Tetris blocks that are pieced together, which suck for skateboarding. Here in Bundang, many of the sidewalks are overed with a soft, spongy material which is impossible to skateboard on. |

Thanks for the links Patonpanda. Those guys on the street were crazy.
Joe Boxer, yeah my main concern is that Koreans will have negative perceptions of skaters much like many Americans do even though skateboarding and longboarding are quite different. Where I'll be living, Dongtan, has a nice central park that seems like it would be nice to skate on from some clips I've seen on youtube. |

Koreans think that skateboards are toys for children. |

Whenever I skate around on my longboard I usually just get stares from the older people because I'm pretty sure they've never really seen a longboard before (at least in my city, Hapcheon) and the kids always yell and want to ride |

Hey, this isn't a reply to the question asker but to sammy. I noticed you live in Hapcheon and I wanted to ask you about the town because I recently got a job out there. I've found very sparse information about it and from what I can tell, it's pretty much the styx. Can you give me more information? If you get this message, I can be reached at ogechE107[at][gmail][dot][com] .. thanks. |
