I noticed that KEB offers non-resident foreign currency accounts
(http://www.keb.co.kr/IBS/english/b2c/deposit/guide/foreign/page01.jsp)
and was wondering if anyone has personal experience using this type of account? What are its advantages and disadvantages?

Before going back to Grad School, we opened a US account at KEB.

No problem - if you know you're going somewhere that needs US$, like SE Asia, you put a hundred or so in pretty regularly.

It's MUCH nicer than waiting until the day before you go on holiday and realizing that the exchange rate is going to take away 10% of the value of your money....

We invest in Ameritrade, so we need US$ currency to send overseas. Exchanging regularly (a bit more when you feel the rate is better) reduces exchange rate risk.

I have a CH account and US account with KIUP....no problem but it seems it took awhile to do it (1.5 hrs).....the manager profusely apologized for taking so long as it turns out I was the first foreigner at that branch to even request one!

My bank is pretty helpful but still won't issue a credit card!

With Shinhan I have a USD and JPY a/c. In the past I have had CAD and EUR a/cs with First Bank.

I am pretty sure all the major banks offer accounts in all major currencies.
