|
|
"Nowhere Man" keeps asking me about the motor show and if I had a good time. Rather than reinvent the wheel, I'll just repost here what I posted on a minor writing project I do to update my friends and family about my time in Korea.
I believe he keeps harping on it because he neither believes I went (so I could postpone a discussion we were having in which he has been calling me names and poking me with a sharp stick thus making me cry) nor that this writing project site exists as he has never seen it (and was making the whole thing up to sound manly).
Is there no problem I can not solve? Enjoy the cut and paste job from the other original posting:
------------------------------------------
It's Thursday, and it's day six of the Seoul Motor Show. Welcome to a new area in a satellite city of Seoul where far too many people are converging. Technically, it should be called the Ilsan Auto Show which would shortern down to IAS which also stands for Internet Addiction Syndrome.
Seems that a couple more people arrived before I did. At least the lines are actually organized, even if it appears that thousands are in line already. More than a million people are expected to attend the show over the 10 days it will be running.
But at least some people won't be bored while waiting for their tickets. Unlike in Canada where I grew up doing stupid stunts, driving off into the wilderness and performing stunts is a bit of an unknown.
Oh yes, good times, good times. Look what Koreans have missed out on. To think I have a 40% safe-drivers discount.
After a brief wait, Jungsu has the tickets in hand. Victory is ours.
Well, look at that. Seems that they let anyone stupid just walk up and pose with the models. I could tell by looking into her eyes that she loves only me, and because of that I must not pose with any other models. It is my only hope.
Those rabbit ears have flashing LEDs.
Seems that some companies decided to import Russian talent to stand out from the local models.
?
Land Rover? Aren't they dead? But then what do I know. Well, it looks like I really do know nothing.
Girl not included, but headlight wipers are.
Hello the past, I missed ya!
A prototype car from Honda ripped right from the 80s!
Supported by a model born in the 80s.
Honda, in addition to showing off a lot of cars, brought their spiffy little robot along for the ride. I have no useful pics, but info on it can be found anywhere. It was curious to see it in action. It moves quite smoothly and combines dual movement commands very well for a seamless direction change.
A cool poster with Honda's robot.
Random model.
Did she not read my thread on the dangers of wearing ties?
What curious hair. A new Corvette for anyone who didn't already know.
A SAAB girl. That dress kicks so much ass.
Since this is a post about an auto show, I guess I should include more cars. Here's a new Rolls Royce model. Looks curious.
She looks familiar. I know I've never met her, but I can pretend.
An Audi. It's red.
And sold apparently. I didn't know the selling of display cars was done, or who would want to buy a car that was touched by a million people.
Cute dress.
Another Audi girl.
Back behind a desk, just like the old days! Though in the old days I don't recall a couple of cute girls standing beside me pretending to like me.
Cute outfit.
The bitch is telling me to *beep* off!
This prototype Hyundai looks quite promising compared to the usual boring stuff they do.
And the model looks cute too.
While "Lost" says that Korea has pick-up trucks everywhere, "Lost" lies. In my four years here, I have never seen a western-style pick-up truck. And that changes this fall. When GM bought Daewoo in 2003 one of the first things they noticed was that their were no pick-up trucks in Korea and that they were going to change that. And Kia will not be left behind because it's time that everyone had a well made truck!
If I had known that I was going to be sticking around more than a year here, I would have shipped over my red Mazda 4x4 pick-up truck of death. The women would have loved it.
And every new vehicle needs a model to show it off.
Why have one model when you can have two!
Even real trucks that can haul houses around get the showgirl treatment. This particular girl was very popular with little children getting their photographs with her. It took forever to get a picture of her standing alone. Yes, it's a bit fuzzy and I should have taken a second one but never again was she alone. Sorry.
She's selling and everyone is buying.
If she spoke English, she would have said that she loved me.
I had a picture of her posing for me and smiling. I know because I asked her and she spoke English. Yes, love was born. But when I got home, the picture was no where to be found on the camera.
Before when pictures disappeared from my camera it happened so rarely that I figured I was just retarded and was making things up. But damn it, I know I took a picture of my future wife here. To Yongsan, we're buying a new camera today! No more pictures disappearing and I'll get something that has a better picture quality. Plus my once small camera has become huge. With a new camera, no longer will the neighbors laugh at me and poke me with sharp sticks.
Unlike the other Hyundai girls, she obviously reads this forum and has learned of the dangers in wearing a tie.
She looks familiar. Seriously. Wait, I know her. She's the girl from Elec Cookie.
And she brought her friends!
Now she's doing a solo. Showboating *beep* or fan appreciation?
Enjoying a quite break while deciding if Do Jim Mi is a showboating *beep* during her solo.
Much like her Hyundai cousins with her having a tie, she steps it up a notch and sports a cool hat. I should have worn my fedora and then we both could have been cool.
Behold, my attempt at modern art. Years from now when I'm a successful but alcoholic artist, people will look back at this moment and say that this was the pinnacle of my career and that it was all downhill after that.
Sure, Samsung colluded to jack up ram prices a couple years back, but since a lot of the money goes into pay her wages I'm certain that we can find it in our hearts to forgive them.
Another Samsung girl.
The new Mustang, one of fifty being sold in Korea. Ford feels that because no one is buying their cars here as it is (seriously, Ford has a practical 0% current model year marketshare.) that by announcing that they will only sell fifty Mustangs that it will be exclusive and thus make a person cool for owning one. And fifty is more than double what they would have sold normally. A novel way of forcing up sales if it works.
For those who were wondering, the largest foreign new car company in Korea is BMW with a 3% marketshare.
The girl the legs in the last picture belong to.
That's right, a supercar! And not just a regular supercar, but a midship supercar made by Koreans. $100,000 each. (99 million Won to be exact, order yours today!).
Hand crafted by her!
And her too.
Samsung's stolen money goes to pays her wages too. Surely you must forgive Samsung now?
She knows how to make an entrance.
Shocking absolutely no one, grey is a very popular colour for cars in Korea. I'm told that Japan was that same way in the 80s with white.
Korean car engines really do glow blue. I am lying.
She's hold the keys to our heart. Or a watch to check to see when she can get the hell away from the men pawing over her. I should have checked before I resized it.
The car this model is next to has full access for a handicapped person thanks to the seat which extends out of the car. But you didn't come here to read about that.
This reminds me that I should hit the racing circuit later this year to take pictures of the racing girls here. It's become quite the fad.
British American Tobacco sponsors this particular car, but with smoking rates plummetting in Korea by more than a third in two years (from super insane 45% (25% of women, 65% of men) of the population to more moderate levels) they may not be sponsoring it much longer.
I'm not familiar with the exact seating arrangements with a Land Rover, but I don't think that's a particularly safe place to be sitting in an off-road vehicle. But then I also thought they had ceased to be so what do I know.
Jewelry on the forehead was seen somewhat often at the show yet I've never seen it anywhere else in Korean fashion.
While she looks angry, I'm sure she is really quite nice.
I do believe that is the tallest hair of any girl I've ever met in Korea. Nice shade though.
Thus ends the last of my Land Rover girl pictures.
"Sexy" and "Volvo" generally haven't been known to be together before, but it seems that this is no longer true.
I surrender, you got me.
Very European in fashion.
Her too.
She looks surprisingly young.
Big hair and fashionable stockings. Very American, I think.
Random Hyundai girl.
Random Hyundai girl's cute friend with Japanese style hair. It's very rare to see Korean women under 30 with short hair, as you may have noticed by now. In Japan, polar opposite.
The Corvette girl. And no one, and I mean no one, was allowed to either touch the car or pose with her. Well, I suppose if I had asked they would have let me because I'm a sexy foreigner and it would have been a kick for her, but I didn't ask.
Her name is CG, and these are my pictures of her:
Please don't cry. I'll protect you. You just tell me who made you cry and I'll make the bad man go away forever.
I have it on great authority that this is the greatest moment in automotive history.
Seems this company decided that hiring a pair of girls would get more attention that just a single one.
And not just one pair.
It's an army!
I have no idea what she is saying, but I was listening all the same.
She looks incredibly shy. There isn't a hope in hell she really is shy, but she carries the look quite well.
Oh god, yes.
Yes, two pictures of same girl in the exact same pose. Deal with it. It's my forum and I'll do whatever I want. File your complaints with someone who cares. And before I forget, oh god yes.
Another random girl.
One never sees girls with that hair in daily life in Korea, but that's ok because I can see it now. Very cute and innocent.
And her older, mature sister?
Convertables, another car style all but unheard of in Korea, promise to invade soon.
Auto-focus failure! Yep, definately getting a new camera as that happens far too often.
Don't cry. It's ok. Would you like a cookie?
Is there no problem I can not solve?
And with that, I say goodbye to the 2005 Seoul Auto show. This was my boring writeup about the show. Next boring update, I tell you which of these models said she wants to meet me and gave me her phone number. Well, she said it was her number but I haven't check to see if it's legit. The suspense builds!

I think I gave one of those girls a D- in English. Not a normal eyelid among em, either. Do I care? Less than they care about learning English. |

Hey Deechidung weegukin, why don't you meet people
and insult them to their faces instead of doing it cowering
behind your keyboard. The only good thing about your
troll posts is that it makes the rest of look so much better
than losers like you.
P.S. I live in Incheon if you want to meet and insult me. |

Don't let the unkind no-hair comments hurt you. He is just jealous.
In the picture with the girl above you- you look up upon her like a thralled worshiping pagan receiving Aphrodites blessing. I think in that moment you caught the idea trapped in that "Ode on a Grecian Urn" by John Keats. A dream that never will be but is so close the heart's hope reflects in your eyes...

WTF.
I have to admit that you don't look like a horny-teenage-no-brainer but the content of your pictures say otherwise. |

OOOOOO you are the first to call me out to the playground. Unlike a life waster with no prospect like YOU, I am not about to engage in childish shoving matches. Im too good to meet you. |
