I am staying another year here in good ole' South Korea, but I think a change of location might be good for my outlook. I currently live near Seoul and I love all the things there are to do! But, Ive seen some great pics of Busan and I hear that its beautiful there. Im from the country and always wanted to live near the ocean so this sounds like a good deal to look into.
I already have a few schools near Seoul that are reputable that I would apply to, but I know nothing of the Busan area. Can anyone recommend some good private schools I should send my resume to?
Also, if you have any pros and cons for Seoul vs. Busan it would be greatly appreciated!
http://www.pusanweb.com seems a good place to check out Pusan.. any other website recommendations would be great too.
Thanx! |

Funny I just got back from a weekend in Busan. Maybe it was the time of the year or the weather but it struck me that Busan is less crowded than Seoul. It looks like Korea, insofar as Seoul is my idea of Korea, but without the wall to wall people.
The air smelled better too. Summers have to be stinky hot there, however. Getting a job teaching English near one of the beaches would be sweet.
All in all it struck me as a less frenetic Seoul without giving up the comforts of a large city. It's also much more geared towards Japanese tourists.
Although I saw more 20something white women there than I see in Seoul. |

Cool.. thanx for that input. Cleaner air sounds like a good thing, and yeah I second the living next to the beach.. that would be great. |

I enjoyed living in Busan and was there for a year. The subway is not as extensive as Seoul and the people can be more, uh, provincial, but the beaches are nice and the atmosphere is a little more laid back. You might take a slight cut in pay, but the cost of living is less than in Seoul. Haeundae has the most facilities and western restaurants. Dadaepo has a beautiful, rough charm. Songdo is dirty.
Getting a hogwan beach next to the beach is possible, but keep in mind that you may not be treated well at such places if everyone else wants a job next to the beach. I've heard tales.
I worked at ESS in Nampo-Dong, decent place. There are many beaches in Busan and you can get to almost any of them within an hour on the subway. It's worth looking into if you want a change.

I thought it was funny the subway had this weird ocean sound for beach stops. The sound at first sounds like gun fire and explosions but if you listen close it turns out its ocean surf and seagulls. |
