A week or so back there was a post regarding job listings for an English Village in Gwangjin-gu. I applied for, got, and took the job, and was pretty excited about it. It'll be my first time in SK, and I thought the work environment, the location, and the pay were pretty good.
Well, I just got axed, a month before the school was set to open. Apparently the government funding that was supposed to be there wasn't, so the opening is postponed indefinitely (until never).
Despite my best intentions to develop cheong, and to be empathetic toward the politics of English's spread that mandates English education in the first place, I can't help being extremely p_ssed at all of this.
Anyone else just get preemptively jobslain from this EV? I'm curious to hear how the job search is going (mine just started again). Is this a common experience with people going to new schools?
Sorry to be so negative--and to waste an entire topic--but hey . . . |

If you started the visa process, cancel it immediately
This business is cut-throat competitive and very unstable, so don't count on your job until you're actually here. In fact, don't count on it even then. (In other words, carry a back-up plan in your back pocket at all times.)
Anyways, you have a month's notice, so it's not a big deal at all. It's better they told you now rather than waited until you got here and then tried to weasel money out of you for airfares and other miscellaneous fees. |
