The luggage restriction for flying into Korea is 20kg.
Does anyone know how many bags you can spread that 20kg over?
I have two suitcases, and between them they weigh about 20kg when packed. Do you think I will be able to bring both bags, or willl the 20kg limit apply to one bag only?
How many bags did you bring with you to Korea?

| I know that when you fly out of Canada the limit is two bags and a carry on. I think the rules are different outside of North America though- best to call the airline and check. |

Usually they say 2 bags you can check in. However I've checked in 3 bags that were under the weight limit. It really depends on how nice the person is behind the counter and how nice you are. But my view is if you're moving some place for a year +, pay the extra fee for another bag. What's in that bag will probably cost you more to rebuy in Korea than the $20 or $50 they'll charge you. |

Travelling to or from places other than NA, the airlines' usual allowance is 20 kg per person (30 for business and 40 for first) but you can spread that over as many bags as you wish. Most people restrict to one bag, if only becuase the bags themselves weigh a kilo or more.
Depending on the airline, price of the ticket, load etc, many airlines will permit up to 30 without charge, but don't rely on this. Excess baggae generally costs 1% of the one-way first class fare per kilo.
The last time I travelled from USA to Seoul I had two bags with 120 kg. Plus a 10kg carry-on. When I arrived home, I was Jacob'd. |

| depends on the airline, if you are coming from North America, you can normally bring way more than 20 kgs, you should check with the airline. |

Here is the baggage allowance for Korean Air when flying from the Americas.
"Economy Class adult passengers: Two pieces of baggage provided that the dimensions (the sum of the length, height, and width) of each bag do not exceed 158 cm (62 in.), the weight of each bag does not exceed 32 kg (70 lbs), and further, that the sum of the dimensions of the two bags does not exceed 273 cm (107 in.)."

| On Air Canada in September '04 I brought a hockey bag and a large suit-case (checked) and a big back-pack and a laptop bag for carry on. I've heard that other airlines are stingy (sp?) on baggage though. |

There are special allowances for hockey bags and other sports gear. It's Canada after all.
Liability is limited to $20 US per kilo. So I guess you should fill your suitcase with bricks in case it gets lost.  |
