Teachers who are in Korea teaching privates exclusively, will
be immune from the overblown June crackdown. How will immigration
possibly catch them? Immigration doesn't have an address, a
workplace etc. So it will be smooth sailing and 4+ million a month
for us gallant privateers. On the other hand, if you are stupid enough
to work at a hagwon with a forged degree, no degree and/or no visa
and no degree, then you could be in for trouble. But then if you are that
stupid you should get busted anyway.

just because you don't have paperwork doesn't mean you don't leave tracks. If you're a white person visiting an area you'll attract attention. Guards, hogwon bus drivers, the adjuma grapevine, banks etc. are alll places that could give you way.

I agree with Crazylemongirl.....quite a few people have been busted before. If someone sees you repeatedly coming to an apartment and know you don't live there....immigration is only a phone-call away. Not only that, but if you blab these things to a girlfriend/boyfriend and then you break up....
And from what I understand...isn't there some kind of reward for people who use the "rat-out" line? This builds even more incentive to turn you in.

Immigration gives out big rewards for ratting people out. I think they even have a special number just for it. If you are at some plece regularly people will figure it out, and its an easy way to make a million won. I hope all those teaching privates are caught.

I am who I am. No changing that. A law abiding individual. I have no reason to feel shame for respecting the law, following it and wishing others would too. Privates are illegal, Mith. Whether we like it, or not. They are illegal, and those who teach privates are criminals.

Informers and incentives to rat out your neighbours.

Which side of the DMZ are we living on.

It's the word 'hope' that did it.

You are what they made you to be. Had you been living in Singapore all this time instead of Korea you would be hoping for a crackdown on oral sex.

..or perhaps a crackdown on all those dirty criminal gum chewers. I'd be willing to bet you've never been offered a private and are quite bitter about it.

I enjoy oral sex. No way would that happen. The fact is that privates are illegal. No one made me into anything Mith. I have formed my views on my own. I dont succumb to outside influence. Im so beyond that.

I never went out of my way to seek any privates. Ive been offered a few over they years. I have a small circle of people I spend time with and no one I know is looking for privates. Plus, they know I would never do them.

Really? I should hope so, but I'm not yet certain. It is illegal to have oral sex in Singapore as I'm sure you're aware. The law against oral sex there looks about as productive as the law against privates here does from Japan, but some people seem to be willing to die for it (or maybe just to work really hard for it).

From what I've seen, your views vs. Bush are (possibly) because you're Canadian, your views against privates are (possibly) because you are a lifer here that wants to stay out of trouble, your views on the pope are (possibly) because of what you were born into. I do hope that it was all you that made the decision to think the way you do, but you can understand how it may look a little suspect from the outside. Sorry to be so mean.

My views on Bush are due to him being an idiot. Pure and simple. If i was born in Madagascar, Id still hate Bush.

My views on privates stem from me being a lifer, partly. Mostly they stem from the fact that privates are immoral. They allow richer kids to get an advantage over poorer kids. This perpetuates many problems tied in with class and economic power of certain individuals over others. The fact that I am alifer and illegals make my life here harder, I dnt think that is succumbing to outside influence. Rather, it is about protecting my ass.

My views on the Pope are due to the fact that JP2 was a brilliant and great man, and the new Pope, from what I have read, is no less brilliant.

This is probably the best argument against privates that I have been able to find thus far.
