I've been eating a lot of tofu lately. At W500 for a big block of fresh tofu, it's cheap, healthy, and tastes pretty good. Unfortunately, I don't really know what to do with the stuff.
All I really know to do with it is steam it then dip it in soy sauce or cube it and put it in soup (dwenjang or chili). Does anyone have any good recipe ideas for what to do with all that dirt cheap, healthy tofu? |

| Stir fry. Cooking oil, ginger, garlic, onions, vegetables and soy sauce. Sometimes I just use whatever I've got in the fridge. |

| Go to a supermarket and buy a mapadupoo sauce, buy some beef, either minced already or you can mince it yourself. Fry the beef in some oil, drain the liquid, add the sauce and some garlic.. mmm... it's a spicy chinese dish but yummy!!! |

agree, cube, light dusting of corn or potato starch so the oil doesnt fly up in your face and also makes it crispy, deep fry in oil then make your own quick teriyaki sauce to dip it in: equal parts soy and sugar bring to boil, make a corn/potato starch slurry to thicken the sauce, adding a spoonful at a time until the right thickness and enjoy! |

1) You can press out the excess water, then slice it and freeze it. When you defrost it, the texture changes. Can't describe it, just try it, its really good.
I like to stir fry slices onions, green/red peppers, garlic and ginger. Then stir in the tofu. (cut it into cubes, or slices). Saute for a bit until it becomes the color you like. Drizzle some soy/kalbie/oyster/ or what ever sauce you want. (or no sauce for that matter). eat it. Its wonderful.
Of corse you can make this same dish if you don't freeze the tofu first.
2) Press out the water. Cut it in cubes or slices. Mix it with a beaten egg, some salt and pepper. Grease a frying pan lightly. Cook it like you would make scrambled eggs.
Enjoy it. tofu really stretches your food dollar |

| I like cooking it in some olive oil, a very little salt, maybe one clove of minced garlic (added late) and a whole bunch of fresh rosemary. *drool* Add it to some brown rice, barley, and millet, throw some noodles in with it, or do what I do: get too hungry/greedy and eat it right out of the frying pan. |

Another thing I do with tofu, is when I make a chicken in the over (its a small table top oven with temp controlls) I cube the tofu, and put it in and around the chicken, and then make the chicken as usual.
The tofu tastes like chicken (sort of) when its all cooked. This cuts down the price of the chicken, and tofu added is healthy.
I am a big fan of tofu, used to use it in the US all the time.
If you make french toast, and you have left over egg mixture, then just dip some tofu in the mixture and cook that too.
This morning I made some oatmeal for breakfast, and mashed up the tofu (undrained) and cooked it with the raw oats, a few nuts, and a teaspoon full of raisens. The oatmeal becomes very creamy, and it has no added taste. But its healthy. |
